Valentine's Eve...or Friday the 13th?!?

Okay, many of you may have read my sister's post documenting our Valentine's Day makeovers at the MAC counter last night. When I saw my eyes, I was reminded of something, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. This morning it hit me.

Do we see the resemblance?! :o)

Anyway, I'm fairly certain people were remarks at the theatre, but it was a lot of fun, anyway.

So we saw the movie "He's Just Not That Into You" and I've gotta say... it was an eye-opener. All those guys I thought liked me these last years probably had absolutely no interest...and others probably did that I totally blew off. I think it's interesting that men and women struggle to communicate effectively when they're supposedly programmed to be together. When one does manage to get their point across to another, it's doubtful the other will agree. Yet another reason to avoid dating. :o)

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day!!

My Type

These days it seems that a lot of people are concerned for my happiness more than I am. They keep asking me what my "type" is in hopes that they can set me up with a perfect man. So I've asked myself what my type is, and I've come up with a few examples:
------------------------------------------------

Keith Harkin:
Blonde dreamboat of Celtic Thunder. Singer, songwriter, guitar player. Lovely eyes, good style, great hair, cute accent, amazing voice.

James McAvoy:
See? Look how cute. Can't say that I know much about him, but I like his style and he definitely knows how to pretend to be a dreamboat in the movies. Even when he was half goat it was all good!

John Krasinski:
Or should I say Jim Halpert? That's probably more accurate. Look how cool and cute he is. I don't even feel the need to defend this one.
------------------------
So what we've learned from this is that I have no type. I just wanted an excuse to ooze over a few perfect-for-me non-options. Hope you've all enjoyed it as much as I have!
(If you do happen to know any of these guys or someone with similar or otherwise attractive qualities, please let me know.)

Five Things I Probably Could But Wouldn't Want to Live Without

I happened to look at my cousin's blog the other day and noticed that she tagged me (rather persuasively) to list my five favorite things. I think it was more of an attempt to make me update my blog than anything else, but I'm down.
I started by making a list of everything I love, but the first 10 items were edible, and the next few were people. We'll just say these are in addition to food, friends, and family. Here we go!

1. Diet Coke -- Diet Coke is quite possibly the sweet nectar of the gods. No other soft drink comes close to the colossal joy I get when I take that first little fizzy sip of calorie-free goodness. Liquid bliss. Love in a can. This is what Diet Coke is to me.

2. Text Messaging -- If I couldn't text, I would lose contact with 90% of the people in my life. Sad, but true! I've always hated talking on the phone, and to this day, I avoid it when I can. Speaking on the phone opens up opportunities for sharing unwanted information and rambling. Texting allows me to maintain control of my level of involvement in the conversation. I'm never obligated to stay in a conversation longer than I wish, answer right away, or express any kind of emotion. Bottom line: Texting is impersonal and to the point. I love it!!

3. Going to the Movies -- My favorite passtime! The movies are always a good idea. Is it the sticky floor? Is it being in a dark room with strangers? Is it the kids kicking the back of your chair? It's hard to put my finger on the exact reason, but the cinematic experience is lovely. Even a bad movie can't always ruin a trip to the theatre!

4. Sales -- I am 100% opposed to paying full price. For anything. Ever. If I can't get it on sale, there's a good chance I won't get it at all. Either way, I'm saving money!!

5. Song Lyrics -- I am a song lyric junkie. I hate not knowing the words to the songs I like...and I hate it even more when I hear someone sing the wrong words to a song! I have a habit of posting random song lyrics as my Facebook status. Dorky? Yes. Can I help it? No. It's compulsive.

So there you have it. Five of my favorites. I could probably live without them...but why would I want to?!? Tagged: Kelli F, Holley, Megan P, Kellie, Shauna

My Escape.

I was recently listening to a Reliant K song with the lyrics, "I've gotta get out of here. I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake." It was during this song that I came up with a completely new game plan. Let other people run my life!!!! Heaven knows I'm not doing a very good job.

You know when you see those ads for those really nice retirement homes for the elderly. These people have lovely living arrangements, nutricious, well-balanced meals, planned recreational activities, and plenty of channels. Does nobody else see the rockin'ness of this!?!? Why do I have to be 80 years old before I'm allowed to live it up?'

Okay. That was an extreme example. I'm gonna go slightly more mild. I'll start by taking suggestions. I need answers to the following questions: Where should I live next? What should I do for a job? Whom should I date? What hobbies should I take up?

Before you answer, please consider that this is my actual life we're talking about. Let's be reasonable.

Happy New Year!?...

So...I had a few optional agenda items for New Year's Eve. One was a dance (1.5 hours away) full of desperately single adults eager to meet ANY unattached LDS kids within a 300 mile radius. Another was a branch "party" which sounded nearly identical to our last New Year's Eve party...and three parties we've had since. The last (and surprisingly least irritating option) was a midnight 5k they were putting on in Tulsa. More surprisingly..Brenda agreed to go with us.

The race started at 11:45 pm, fireworks went off at 12 (while we were running), and pizza was waiting at the end of the race. I can't think of a better way to start a new year! Burning calories and wasting NO time consuming more! It was a bit below freezing, but luckily the wind had other plans that night, so as long as you were moving, it was relatively comfortable. They served champagne at the water stops... because what all serious runners need during a race is carbonated alcohol. We chickened out and drank water in an attempt to rehydrate our bodies. We're just crazy like that.

Is that guy checking us out!??

Speaking of the New Year... I've decided to keep an updated list of my goals for this year on my blog. I'll have to put a star by them as they get done or something...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Glories of Youth

About the middle of the day last Friday, my friend Brooke asked me if I wanted to drive to Oklahoma City for a Shiny Toy Guns concert that night. It was supposed to start at 8:00pm, and I didn't get off work until 7:30pm, and it's a 1.5 hour drive. Anyone see a problem?!? We didn't either!!

So we ended up getting down to OKC around 9:20...which was actually pretty good. We figured both the opening acts would take about an hour anyway, so at most we'd miss a few songs. Perfect timing, right?! WRONG! What we failed to realize is that the directions we got from Google excluded a vital interchange. We drove around downtown for about 45 minutes before a friend finally called to give us better directions. It was actually a few miles OUT of town.

So by the time we got to the concert, they were playing the encore and we weren't going to be allowed in the door. The friend had apparently flirted enough with the lady at the door that she sent him to the back door to hear the end of the concert and told him he could come in when everyone was leaving to buy cds and what not. We met him at the back door...which put us backstage in time to hear two of my favorite songs (and see the back of the band). It was also just enough time to allow my clothing to soak in the smoke/beer smell. If nothing else, at least I would SMELL like I'd been to a rock concert.

We ran in afterwards, bought a cd (that we could have gotten at Wal-Mart), took a few pictures to prove we'd made it, grabbed some burgers and headed for home around 1:30am. Time of my freakin' life!!

No-Snow Snow Days

Today began like any other. My alarm went off at 4:53am, waking me from my dream about riding dragons while playing quidditch. (Not joking.) Took a hot shower. Drank a glass of pomegranate juice. Pulled my hair back. Brushed the ice off my car. Drove at a glacial pace to work....and heard on the radio on the way there that the area schools were closed for the day.

**Interjection**
There was no snow. The roads were covered with ice that fell in pellets all night. It was 75 degrees yesterday. Ridiculous.

Typically, as I later found out, we would not be open on days that school is cancelled. Had I known, I could have slept in in my wonderfully warm bed. Instead I spent 7 lonely hours in an empty fitness center with only a vacuum and duster for company. Needless to say, the place was spotless by the time I left.

I had nearly made it home with no problems until the final turn onto my street when I gently slid into the ditch. My neighbor who was just in front of me when it happened didn't seem all that worried about me. I'd like to think it's because he didn't see... although I could've sworn I saw him laugh in his rearview mirror. Anyway, I worked my way out after 5 minutes of maneuvering and approached my driveway in time to see my nephews riding off down the road on a sled being pulled by...not kidding...a lawnmower. Welcome to the Heartland.

The rest of the day was filled with treasures such as watching Jeopardy in front of my space heater, doing butt crunches with my sister, and trying desperately to find something interesting to write on my blog. (Obviously nothing came of that last one.) It was supposed to be filled with running errands and finding a Christmas gift for my "secret santa" person for our Christmas dinner at work tomorrow. The good news is that school is cancelled tomorrow which means there's a chance the party will be postponed. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

The morals of my story are two fold:
#1 - You don't need snow to have a wonderfully eventful snow day as long as someone in the neighborhood has a sled and a lawnmower.
#2 - Don't procrastinate. Things could get icy.
